Upper Lid Blepharoplasty
As we age, the skin around the upper eyelids begins to sag, which can lead to what are known as drooping eyelids. In severe cases, this can also result in a functional restriction of the field of vision. An upper eyelid lift is performed to remove excess skin and, where necessary, protruding fatty tissue from the upper eyelid area. This creates an open, alert and refreshed look with a natural appearance.
Duration of the procedure
60 to 90 minutes
Anaesthesia
Local anesthesia
Stay
Outpatient
Post treatment
Sutures removed after 1 week, apply cold compresses
Recovery time
1 to 2 weeks
Key Information
A more open, alert appearance achieved by removing excess upper eyelid skin, leaving barely visible scars within the natural eyelid crease.
Consultation
During a face-to-face consultation, the upper eyelid area, the extent of excess skin and any protruding fat deposits are carefully analysed. We work together to define your wishes and the optimal treatment strategy. You will also receive comprehensive information about the procedure, its effects, potential risks and the realistic outcome you can expect. In cases of significant functional visual field impairment, your health insurance may cover the costs.
Preparation
On the day of the treatment, the eye area should be free of make-up. Following consultation with your doctor, any blood-thinning medication should be stopped or adjusted a few days before and after the procedure.
Surgery / Injection
Before the operation, the excess skin is carefully planned and marked out. Through a fine incision in the natural eyelid crease, excess skin and, where necessary, protruding fatty tissue are removed. The incision is then closed using fine sutures, leaving a discreet, barely visible scar in the eyelid crease.
Aftercare
The surgical site should be kept cool on a regular basis. The stitches are removed after around 5 to 7 days. Afterwards, the body should be allowed to rest sufficiently for around 5 days. Most patients are able to resume normal social activities after around 1 to 2 weeks, once the swelling and discolouration have largely subsided. Sun protection should be used consistently during the healing phase.
Result
A more open, alert and refreshed appearance thanks to the removal of drooping eyelids, with barely visible scars.
