During a face-to-face consultation, the function, symmetry and mobility of the facial muscles, as well as any individual functional limitations, are carefully analysed. Together, we define the treatment objectives and develop a personalised treatment plan incorporating static and/or dynamic reconstructive options. In addition, we provide comprehensive information on possible treatment options, the procedure, risks and the realistic functional and aesthetic outcomes that can be expected.
Preparation
Preparation is tailored to each individual, depending on their underlying condition and the planned treatment. A comprehensive pre-operative assessment, supplemented where necessary by imaging tests and functional analyses, is important in many cases. Blood-thinning medication is adjusted following consultation with a doctor, and it is recommended that patients stop smoking for at least 4 weeks.
Surgery / Injection
Procedures aimed at functional and aesthetic restoration are employed. These include dynamic techniques such as nerve reconstruction, nerve transfers (e.g. cross-face nerve graft or masseter transfer) and free muscle transplantation. In addition, static procedures such as eyelid implants, static suspension techniques or facelift techniques may be used. Furthermore, botulinum toxin injections can help to improve symmetry.
Aftercare
Post-operative care is tailored to the individual, depending on the type and extent of the procedure. Depending on the operation, physiotherapy exercises, facial muscle training and regular follow-up appointments may be necessary to optimally support functional recovery.
