Implant Removal/Replacement
Breast implants are removed or replaced for aesthetic or medical reasons. When implants are replaced, the size of the implants and the pocket in which they are placed can be adjusted. When implants are removed, a breast lift involving the reorganisation of the breast tissue can help achieve a harmonious shape.
Duration of the procedure
1–3 hours
Anaesthesia
General anaesthesia
Stay
Outpatient treatment or a short hospital stay
Post treatment
Sutures removed after 2 weeks, support bra for 6 weeks
Recovery time
1 to 2 weeks
Key Information
Safe removal or adjustment of the implants, including removal of the capsule where necessary, and restoration of a natural breast shape.
Consultation
During a personal consultation, we will assess your current breast condition and discuss your individual preferences. Together, we will explore the options for implant removal, capsule removal or replacement, as well as any additional measures to optimise the shape of your breasts. You will be given comprehensive information about the procedure, the risks involved and the expected outcome.
Preparation
To ensure optimal wound healing, you should stop smoking for around four weeks before and after the operation. Blood-thinning medication should be stopped or adjusted a few days before the procedure, following consultation with your doctor.
Surgery / Injection
Before the operation, the incision site and the breast are marked whilst the patient is standing, so that the symmetry and position of the implants can be planned precisely. The procedure is then carried out under general anaesthesia. During the procedure, the existing scar is excised and the implant pocket is accessed. Depending on the findings, the capsule and the implant are (partially) removed. A special support bra is fitted whilst the patient is still in the operating theatre to help stabilise the new breast shape.
Aftercare
After the operation, you will either go home or stay on the ward for one or two nights for observation. After that, you should allow your body two weeks’ rest. We recommend wearing a support bra for six weeks and avoiding exercise during this time.
Result
A natural-looking breast shape with harmonious contours, tailored to your individual preferences. Depending on your initial situation, a breast lift can also improve symmetry, enhance the upper pole and improve the overall shape of the breasts.
